This page explains what happens to data when you use the Puente Communicator (the comunicador.html page and the Puente Communicator app). It is separate from the Puente privacy policy, which is for schools and families with an account: the Communicator has no accounts.
In short
- There are no accounts: no account is needed, and no email, name or age either.
- Of what you do in the Communicator (the sentences you build, your favorites, your settings), nothing is sent to Puente's servers: it stays on your device.
- No ads or purchases, and no analytics or tracking cookies. It does not use artificial intelligence either.
- The pictures are ARASAAC pictograms (Government of Aragón) and they are requested from its servers. That is the only thing that leaves the device, and it is explained below.
Who uses it
The Communicator is for all ages. It is used mostly by children and by people with disabilities or difficulty speaking, often with the help of a family member or a support person. That is why it does not ask for any data about the person using it.
What is stored on your device
- Settings and favorites (
localStorage, keypuente-comunicador): whether the device says the words and the sentence, the voice and its speed, the picture size, boy or girl, your favorites, the pictures you added with the search (up to 60, with the word you chose), the wake word and the pause of the Home board, and the language. - Site language (
localStorage, keypuente-idioma) and a mark that you opened the app (sessionStorage, until you close the tab or the app). - Copy for offline use (browser cache): the page files and the board pictures that were already loaded.
None of this is sent to Puente. Whoever uses that device and that browser or app can see it.
How to delete it
In the Communicator, the button «Delete settings and favorites from this device» deletes the settings, the favorites, the added pictures and the Communicator language choice. To also delete the offline copy and the site language, clear the site or app data in your browser or Android settings (Storage), or uninstall the app.
What ARASAAC receives
The pictograms come from ARASAAC (Government of Aragón, Spain). To show them, your browser or app requests them directly from ARASAAC:
- Images (
static.arasaac.org): ARASAAC can see the IP address of your connection and which pictograms are requested (by their number). Once saved on the device, the images are used without requesting them again. - Search (
api.arasaac.org), only if you use it to add pictures to Favorites: the word you type (up to 40 characters) goes from your browser to ARASAAC, without cookies and without saying which page it comes from. It also sees the IP address. Puente does not receive that word or store it, and the search is not kept in the offline copy. If you do not use the search, no word is sent.
What ARASAAC does with those requests is defined by ARASAAC, not by Puente: see its site, arasaac.org. That is why it is best not to type names or personal details in the search.
What the device requests from Puente
When you open the Communicator, the device requests the page files from puentepictos.app (and, the first time, saves them to work offline). As on any website, the server that delivers them may record the usual technical data, such as the IP address. Puente does not add analytics or tracking cookies to the Communicator.
Voice
The Communicator speaks with your device's speech synthesis (the one that comes with the system or the browser). Whether a voice works inside the device or needs a connection depends on that device and its provider, not on Puente. Puente does not receive what is said. The Communicator does not use the microphone.
Data controller
Data controller: Danny Gerardo Vergel (as an individual), who runs the Puente project, until a non-profit association is set up to take on that role. Contact for questions, complaints and to exercise your rights: soporte@puentepictos.app.
Changes
If the Communicator changes what it does with data, this page is updated first. For the rest of Puente (schools and families with an account), the Puente privacy policy applies.
