What Puente is and what it uses data for
Puente is a free, non-profit tool for special education schools. Teachers record how each student's day went and Puente shows it to the family in pictograms, with a clear summary. Its only purpose is communication between school and family and the student's educational follow-up (daily record, individual education plan goals and supports). Data is not sold, not used for advertising and not shared with anyone beyond what is explained here.
Data about children and teenagers with disabilities is sensitive data under Argentina's Personal Data Protection Law 25.326. It is only processed with the express consent of the family or guardian.
Data controller
Data controller: Danny Gerardo Vergel (as an individual), who runs the Puente project, until a non-profit association is set up to take on that role. Contact for questions, complaints and to exercise your rights: soporte@puentepictos.app.
What data is processed
- About the student: only the first name (or first name and initial) and the class. No surname, no photos, no ID number and no diagnoses.
- Support profile: how the student communicates, what bothers them (sensory), what calms them, eating, what they like, other supports and the individual education plan goals. The school enters it.
- Daily record: activities, mood, achievements and alerts that the teacher types or dictates.
- Reports and documents: files the school uploads about the student (for example, reports from teachers or therapists), as PDF, JPG, PNG or DOCX. The team assigned to the student can see them; the family sees them only if the school decides to share them, one by one. They are stored in Vercel Blob (private storage) and are never sent to the AI. The email notice to the family does not include the file or its title.
- About the family: name, relationship, email and phone number of the contacts the school enters; the consent (who accepted, when, and which version of this policy); the questions you ask in the «Preguntale a Puente» (Ask Puente) chat.
- About teachers: name, email, school and role.
- Access log (security): sign-ins, failed attempts, profiles viewed, exports and removals, with the email encrypted (not readable) and the network address truncated.
- Pilot usage: we count how many days are entered and viewed, as totals per school and per day, with no personal data: we do not store who entered or who viewed them.
Who can see the data
- The family only sees the students the school has linked to them by email.
- Teachers only see the students assigned to them; the school's leadership sees all students in their school.
- The Puente platform (technical administration) can access data to provide support, security and removals.
Third parties involved (data processors)
- Vercel (hosts the application, stores published days and the reports and documents the school uploads in Vercel Blob, and counts visits anonymously with Web Analytics).
- Neon (Postgres database with accounts, profiles, consents and records).
- Resend (sends the emails with sign-in codes, invitations and notices).
- Google (only if a teacher or school leader chooses «Sign in with Google»): Puente only receives the verified email of that account, to recognise an account that already exists in Puente. It does not receive contacts, files or any other Google data, and it does not create new accounts. Families do not use Google.
- OpenRouter and the AI providers it uses (they put the account of the day in order, help with the progress report and answer the family chat). Puente only requests providers that do not store or train on the data (no retention). The AI only receives the first name and the minimum needed: never emails, phone numbers, contacts or the health details in the profile.
- ARASAAC (Government of Aragón): it is only asked for pictograms by keyword (for example «recreo», break time). It receives no personal data. The pictogram images load from its servers. In the Communicator, if you use the search to add pictures, the word you type goes straight from your browser to ARASAAC, without cookies; Puente does not receive or store it.
Where it is stored
These providers' servers are outside Argentina, in the United States and Brazil. The application, email delivery (Resend) and the AI (OpenRouter) run in the United States; published days and reports and documents are stored in Brazil (São Paulo). By giving consent you accept this international transfer. Connections are encrypted and access is only by emailed code (teachers can also sign in with Google).
How long it is kept
- Family chat history: 30 days.
- Days published for the family: 365 days.
- Access log and feedback: 365 days.
- Pilot usage totals: 400 days.
- Reports and documents: while the student takes part in Puente. They are deleted (the file and its data) when the student is removed, or earlier if the school deletes them. If the student has no activity in Puente for 5 years, they are deleted automatically.
- Profiles: while the student takes part in Puente. When the school removes the student, or the family asks to leave, their data is deleted.
Your rights
At any time you can ask for access to your data, its correction or its deletion, and withdraw consent. From your family space you can download your data and ask to leave; you can also write to soporte@puentepictos.app. We will reply within the deadlines of Law 25.326 (10 calendar days for access and 5 business days for correction or deletion).
The Agencia de Acceso a la Información Pública (AAIP), the authority that enforces Law 25.326 in Argentina, handles complaints about breaches of personal data protection rules.
Project in testing (BETA)
Puente is in a pilot. If you find a bug or something that worries you, let us know with «Send feedback» or at soporte@puentepictos.app.
